FPE Supports 70 projects in its 24th Year

Posted on November 25, 2016

The Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) ushers its 25th year this 2017 with a productive grants portfolio in its 24th year.

For FY 2015-2016 (July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016), FPE supported 70 projects amounting to more than PhP 30.5 M in its 24th year of operation. These projects are supported in response to the issues identified in the national and regional environment agenda, which include mining, logging, environmental education, climate change adaptation and sustainable energy, land conversion, indigenous people, and building resilient communities and healthy ecosystems.

This year, FPE has laid the groundwork for its ten-year (2015-2025) strategic plan, to be more responsive in its conservation and community development approaches and strategies. FPE has concentrated its site-focused support, which focuses on 10-year conservation management plans in six Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs)—Mt. Kalbario-Patapat Natural Park in Ilocos Norte, Sibuyan Island in Romblon, Gigantes Islands in Iloilo, Mt. Nacolod in Southern Leyte, Agusan Marsh in Agusan del Sur, and Ligawasan Marsh in Maguindanao.

FPE continues to be the NGO Responsible Party of the 5th phase of the GEF-UNDP Small Grants Program (SGP5) in the Philippines, which supports civil society in designing and implementing projects that contribute to biodiversity conservation through community actions. FPE monitors and evaluates the 54 SGP5 program grantees—14 projects in Samar (PhP 25.9 M), 21 in Sierra Madre (PhP 51.7 M) and 19 in Palawan  (PhP 55.3 M).

FPE also collaborated with the global Climate Reality Project to help raise awareness on climate change issues and catalyze local actions and empowering local champions to enhance the resiliency of ecosystems and communities.

FPE has also launched its Small Grants Facility (SGF) for people’s organizations (PO) and indigenous peoples organizations (IPOs) to enable grassroots level organizations access support for community-based BCSD projects.
